What's different about Holy Cross Christian Nursery School and Kindergarten?

At Holy Cross, our goal is to encourage children and their families in a growing awareness of and relationship with Jesus Christ and to help them be the very best the Lord intends them to be socially, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. Our school meets licensure requirements for the state of New Jersey, and the staff consists of personnel trained in early childhood education. The school is open to children of all faiths, who are 2 ½ - 6 years of age.

Facilities

HCCNS&K and Holy Cross Lutheran Church are located at 639 Mountain Avenue, Springfield. There are five fully equipped classrooms which are considerably larger than state requirements for student space allotment. The classrooms provide a material-rich setting for play and learning. A large enclosed outdoor playground with safe, age-appropriate equipment and safe ground cover is on the site for outdoor play.

Curriculum

Our program is designed to help each child make the adjustment from the home environment to the school/group environment. Our Christ-centered curriculum is designed to be age-appropriate at all levels. The daily schedule presents a variety of activities including art, large and small muscle activities, play, singing and other musical experiences, reading and math readiness, Bible stories, prayers, games, storytelling, outdoor play, video, computer, cooking, science, and social studies experiences.

Other Programs

Lunch Bunch is an hour program Monday through Friday 11:30-12:30. Three year olds can stay late and Pre-K children can come early. Parents supply the lunch. Children eat together, then enjoy outside play, video, or a game together.

Schedule

The school is open to preschool children of all faiths, who are 2 1/2 to 6 years of age.

2 1/2-year-olds meet two mornings a week, MW or TTH, 9:10-11:20. There are two teachers and eight children in each class. Children do not need to be toilet trained.

3-year-olds meet two, three, four or five mornings 9:00-11:30. These sessions are available for children who are two years outside of kindergarten in their hometown school district. There are two fully-equipped classrooms for this age group. There are two teachers in each room with a maximum of 14 students per room. Children are to be toilet trained.

The Pre-K class meets Monday through Friday afternoons 12:15-2:45. This half-day program is offered for children entering Kindergarten the following September in their school district. There are two teachers and a maximum of 14 children in this class. This program's curriculum is specifically designed to address readiness skills that will prepare a child both academically and socially for a Kindergarten environment. A computer is available to the children in this class.

Kindergarten from September thru January meets three half days (MWF, 12:00-2:45) and two full days (TTh, 9:00-2:45). From February thru June Kindergarten meets five full days. The children bring their lunch to school all five days. There is one certified teacher. An aide is added for a class of 12 or more children. The Kindergarten is an academically comprehensive curriculum designed to successfully integrate students into any first grade setting. Curriculums used: Sing, Spell, Read, and Write which is a total language arts curriculum, and Scott Foresman Addison Wesley Math

Registration

Applications from families of children currently enrolled are taken first. Registration of new students begins in January. Parents should make an appointment to visit the school with their child to experience the program, meet the teachers, and see for themselves in order to know if our school is right for their child. You will receive an application form at this visit. The completed application form is to be submitted with a non-refundable registration fee of $60. Applications are accepted in the order in which they are received. The staff gives final approval regarding the enrollment for each session.

Tuition

Our tuition rates are set annually. Yearly tuition may be divided into two payments due Sept. 1 and Feb. 1 or into 10 monthly payments due at the beginning of each month.
